Introducing myself and Cakes.
My name is Jay and my clever little girl will be known as Cakes. The name Cakes is a term of endearment that has grown with my little girl. When she was born and as a young baby I always thought she smelt like cake. Therefore I often called her baby cakes. As she has grown and is not really a baby anymore the baby has been dropped and she gets called Cakes. I do get some strange looks in the shops when I call out "Cakes", but oh well she answers to it so why not (she also answers to her name but it is good to have a fall back).
You will find projects and adventures that we both engage in as I learn to play and she plays to learn. I hope you find something that inspires you to inspire your little person. Much of my inspiration comes from either Cakes or pinterest so you may see some of the things we are doing else where. Feel free to write to me about your projects or any feedback about ours.
Cakes
Cakes is a bright, chatty and stubborn two year old. She loves books, colours, fine motor activities and jumping on the trampoline. Her favourite books are The Gruffalo, Hairy Maclary and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She is obsessed with Scooby Doo and Batman. She has an imaginary friend Shaggy and often helps Batman save people from villians. Her favourite places are the Library, the park, any Museum, the theatre, the art galleries and most of all her home. Cakes is the inspiration for this blog and the majority of the content is about her adventures, learning and experiences.
Jay
Jay is a teacher at a local state school in the Early Childhood Development Program and has recently completed her Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). Jay is the author of this blog and started it to share the experience Cakes has in her learning journey as a way to offer ideas and suggestions to parents and teachers of young children. With a back ground in early education and care she tends to turn most experiences into a learning opportunity for Cakes.
Daddy
Daddy works in the city and catches a train to and from work each day. He was studying for almost the first two years of Cakes's life and was able to be involved in all of her milestones and experiences. He is a kid at heart and plays lots of silly games (usually at bedtime razzing Cakes up). Cakes loves playing with Daddy. He has always had a great way with kids (not that he really likes them, haha) and says all the right things to extend their learning in the most mundane situation.
Cat, Turtle and Fish
Cat, Turtle and the two Fish are the original children in our household. Cakes is very fond of all of them and involves them in her play where she can. They always know where she is, what she will be doing and when she will return as she is very specific when speaking to them.
Aunty Teen
Aunty Teen is Daddy's sister and lives locally. Aunty Teen has been in Childcare almost as long as Jay. She also was Cakes's family day care Mum for about a year. Cakes loves to play with Aunty Teen up until she sees Big Cousin H and then poor Aunty Teen gets ditched.
Big Cousin H
Big Cousin H is Cakes's youngest cousin though the one she sees the most often, so to her he is her big cousin. He has just completed his first year at school and is starting grade one this year. He is a bright little guy who always has something interesting to say (often about the ocean).
Aunty Weeze
Aunty Weeze has been friend's with Jay for over a decade now, she was Jay's first childcare boss. She is Cakes's Little Pixie Friend's Mummy. Since returning to work from maternity leave Aunty Weeze only works part time so Cakes sees her often at various outings.
Little Pixie Friend
Cakes's Little Pixie Friend has just turned one. He is a busy little man who is learning fast. Like Cakes he has very little routine in his life which means he can go a whole day without a sleep which means more fun can be had. Cakes enjoys showing him how to do things and hanging out with him.
Princess S.
Princess S. is currently Cakes's best friend, she is spoken about fondly often. She is the daughter of one of Daddy's old work friends. She lives close by so Cakes gets to see her often. The two girls are close in age though have different interests. They both take the time and make an effort to become involved in the other's interests (I find this amazing for 2 and 3 year olds).
Kdog
Kdog is Princess S.'s mummy. Cakes enjoys chatting with her and loves getting her hair and nails done.
