Over the last year we have been collecting all of the milk bottle lids we could, with donations from Cakes's grandparents also. We now have a rather large collection that Cakes enjoys playing with often. Two of the attributes of this play item are Cakes's favourite things; colours and circles. One of the ways we play with the bottle tops at the moment is colour sorting. This allows Cakes to identify the colours, match and sort them. We have just started counting them and discussing most and least. This has allowed her to start ordering them also. At this age these early numeracy skills more than likely will not be mastered though through exposure and practise understandings will start to develop.
