Thanks to my inability to walk past a bargain Cakes has an awesome puppet theatre that I bought several years before she was born for $20 discounted down from $150 (tell me you would have walked past it without buying 1 or 3). If we didn't have this I am sure we would have a perfectly good cardboard box one. Over the years I have collected puppets for myself and when Cakes came along, her also. When Cakes was smaller we used puppets to play, talk to her and just generally interact. I am pretty sure she has only recently worked out I was in control of the puppets movements and voice.
She has recently progressed from holding and moving the puppets to making them speak (to me and then each other) to now putting on a puppet show. "The show is about to start, get your ticket and sit in your seat as the show is about to start" can be heard from almost any room in the house when she gets in behind the puppet theatre. If an audience doesn't arrive she tracks one down, sometimes me, sometimes the cat and often other toys. Cakes is a little bit of a drama queen (god help Daddy as he does not like dramatic people and defiantly not keen on seeing performances of any kind when she is bigger) though through her play can get her quieter friends to join in and become involved. The puppet can give children the voice they do not have.
What is your child's favourite puppet?
Finger puppets, store bought, home made or some other kind of puppet?
