For Christmas each year Cakes makes a piece of Christmas art for a few family members. For her first year we did not have a large variety of paint (we had black) so I photo copied her hands and feet to make an angel. I liked it but everyone else thought it was odd. The next year we did foot print trees and foot print reindeer. This year Cakes asked to print her hands. She decided on Santas and Christmas trees. I thought the best part was printing the hand prints as she always seems to love getting her hands and feet painted though Cakes said "I liked the pictures I did to it" meaning the additions she did to make them look great!
The trees were very quick to print with a quick application of green paint and print, repeat. Cakes then stuck on some stickers. The Santas were a little trickier as she really wanted to squidge the paint though this would ruin her 'template'. We painted her fingers and the tip of her thumb white, half her palm skin colour with a thin line of white and her thumb and bottom of the palm red and print, repeat. We were very happy with the outcome. Cakes put on little black dots for Santa's eyes though I drew on his smile as Cakes often draws frowns (she says they are smiles but is having difficulty turning them around, as much as people would like receiving it with 100% of Cakes's work, I didn't think anyone would want a frowning Santa).

I try to add a poem or story with each piece of art made for display purposes. I used the following two poems that I had in some teaching resources. I am unsure of their origin or their author. They are both very cute and suited Cakes's work very well.
Christmas tree poem I'm a little pine tree- as you can see, All the other pine trees are bigger than me. Maybe when I grow up-then I'll be A great big merry Christmas tree! | Santa Poem I'm a little Santa short and fat, Here is my beard and here is my sack, On Christmas Eve I hop in my sleigh, With a "Ho ho ho" I'm on my way. |
